You may be curious to know where the name came from. Dargus Kelen was the first student of famous Jedi Master Yoda in the early days of the Old Republic. A wise and noble Jedi, Dargus gave his life over to the Order. Over the course of many years Yoda and Dargus came to good terms with species such as the B’omarr and the Wookies.
Dargus himself was a Jedi archaeologist and historian. His primary task was to visit planets of great significance within the Galactic Republic, make records and transmit them back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
Given the complexity of the tasks Dargus was assigned teams of Jedi to help him search for ancient Jedi and Sith artifacts, as well as those from local civilizations. Examples of places that Jedi Kelen visited: Korriban, Dantooine, Hutta and the remains of Peragus. The Hutts were none too happy about Jedi digging around their beautiful mud, but Master Yoda “suggested” that they let the Jedi work.
Dargus Kelen wielded a bright silver lightsaber, constructed 20 years after his rise to knighthood. He was excavating for a Jedi holocron deep within the planet of Alderaan when he found a transparent, metallic crystal. The crystal was full of Force power, as if a Jedi had transferred his power to the small stone. Dargus quickly dropped what he was doing and summoned a Padawan to take the crystal to Coruscant.
After weeks of analysis by computers and Jedi alike it was determined that the crystal, while powerful, was not dangerous in any way. It would, in fact, make a beautiful lightsaber blade when inserted into the saber’s hilt. Upon receiving this news, Dargus requested the stone for his lightsaber. When his saber was complete, a sense of calm radiated from the grip, noticeable by Force users and those not sensitive to the Force at all. It seemed that applying power was the key to the crystal, and when the blade ignited every sentient creature in the room looked at it.
When the Jedi Council learned of the blade’s existence, they summoned Dargus to the council chambers…
